David Held, professor at LSE and world-known scholar, was adviser to Saif al-Islam Gaddafi at the university and director of a research programme funded by his charity. Last may,  introducing the the dictator’s son at the Ralph Miliband memorial lecture, he said:

“I’ve come to know Saif as someone who looks to democracy, civil society and deep liberal values as the core of his inspiration.”

This British academic  has left the London School of Economics before a report on the university’s relationship with Libya is published and has taken up a position at Durham University. Meanwhile the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against Saif citing evidence of crimes against humanity committed against political opponents.
